Sorry, but camping tables and "walkie-talkies" (i.e. RF communications devices) are not available for rental.

Which if any portable GPS navigation option on the open market is best?
See IdeaMerge's analysis of portable GPS navigation solutions.

If you want your El Monte RV rental to include any of the optional extras noted below, you should order such items upon placing a reservation. (Availability of the items cannot be guaranteed unless they are pre-ordered, i.e. booked before the pick-up day.) Our online order software will prompt you in this regard. The cost of any pre-booked items is subject to tax, which extra cost our software does include in the total price presented to you.

In connection with the El Monte RV flex rates, i.e. the rates available only to customers who do not reside in the USA; i.e. only to those persons whose drivers license and passport (or other appropriate documents) show they reside outside the United States of America (that is, outside the USA, its territories, embassies and military bases):

  • mileage package: The IdeaMerge online reservation software will determine and suggest to you the optimal mileage/km solution for the number of miles/kms you plan to drive. Miles can be pre-booked in blocks of 500 miles (833 kilometers) costing US$ 135 each. Unlimited miles are available for rental durations of 10 nights or more at a cost of US$ 675, but a US$ 25 surcharge applies for each night beyond the initial 25 nights. However, for the AD39 and AP39 (or any of the alternative big, luxury A-class diesel pusher models) no mileage package is offered; rather the miles will be estimated and charged upon pick-up of the rental vehicle, at US$ 0.39 per mile.

Upon the return occasion miles beyond any pre-booked number are charged at US$ 0.32 per mile; or US$ 0.39 per mile for the AD39 and AP39 (or alternative luxury A-class diesel pusher models).

  • inclusive package: US$ 85 per night (or US$ 89 per night if you want to include the Priority AM Departure as well) for a minimum of 13 nights includes unlimited miles, all personal kits, the kitchen kit, unlimited generator usage, and the vendor's preparation fee (what El Monte calls the "starter pac fee"). The IdeaMerge online reservation software will determine whether this is the best deal for you, based on the the miles you say you expect to drive and upon the optional extras you select.

  • The El Monte RV flex rates DO automatically include the minimum legal amounts of primary liability (i.e. third party) insurance, which minimums vary between state, province and territory; i.e. these rates include the Rental Liability Insurance (RLI) described below (in connection with standard rates). Regardless of rate type, a client can purchase Statutory Limit Insurance (SLI), which increases said minimum limits to US$ 1,000,000 per authorized driver of the rental vehicle. For clients who do not reside in the USA the SLI costs US$10 per night. Naturally certain exclusions apply, which include but are not limited to several of those listed below.

  • The El Monte RV flex rates also DO automatically include Vehicle Incident Protection (VIP), which is described below (in connection with standard rates) but which in connection with flex rates reduces to US$ 1000 the client's responsiblity for damage to the vehicle, per occurence.

  • generator usage: US$ 5 per night or US$ 3 per hour. The generator voltage output is 110 Volts on all the vehicles. The generator current output for the C22, C25, CS25, C26, CS26, C28, CS28, CS30, FS31, AS32 and AF34 is 30 amps; whereas the curren output for the AB35 is 50 amps. The generator runs on the same fuel tank that the engine does. The fuel tank must be at least 1/4 full in order for the generator to operate. Fuel tank size is listed on the specs page for each vehicle type (click on thumbnail image during online order process). There's no way of estimating generator lifespan per a certain level of fuel, as it will depend entirely on how may appliances they are running over that time.

  • additional drivers: There is no charge for additional drivers.
  • In connection with the El Monte RV standard rates, i.e. the rates available to anyone, regardless of residency:

  • mileage package: The IdeaMerge online reservation software will determine and suggest to you the optimal mileage/km solution for the number of miles/kms you plan to drive. Miles can be pre-booked in blocks of 100 miles (166 kilometers) costing US$ 25 each. Unlimited miles are available for rental durations of 14 nights or more, at a cost of US$ 750 for the first 14 nights and US$ 30 per night thereafter. However, for the AD39 and AP39 (or any of the alternative big, luxury A-class, diesel pusher models) no mileage package is offered; rather the miles will be estimated and charged upon pick-up of the rental vehicle, at US$ 0.39 per mile.

Upon the return occasion miles beyond any pre-booked number are charged at US$ 0.32 per mile for the C25, CS25, C26, CS26, C28, CS28, CS30 and FS31; US$ 0.34 per mile for the AS32; US$ 0.36 per mile for the AF34 and AB35; US$ 0.37 per mile for the FM31; or US$ 0.39 per mile for the AD39 and AP39 (or alternative luxury A-class diesel pusher models).

  • rental liability insurance (RLI): The El Monte RV standard rates do NOT automatically include the minimum legal amounts of primary liability (i.e. third party) insurance, which minimums vary between state, province and territory. Such coverage must be attached to the standard-rate El Monte RV rental via one of the following actions: upon the pick-up occasion, a renter (i.e. client) who is a resident of the USA or Canada must present to El Monte RV proof of his/her personal automobile insurance policy (including policy number and, if his/her insurance company requires one or if the rental RV is a luxury A-class diesel pusher model, a separate rider); a resident of the USA or Canada who cannot present such proof or a renter who does not reside in the USA or Canada must pre-purchase (e.g. via IdeaMerge) El Monte RV's so-called Rental Liability Insurance (RLI), costing US$ 13.50 per night and securing minimum legal amounts of primary liability (i.e. third party) insurance, which minimums vary between state, province and territory. Regardless of rate type, a client can supplement said liability coverage by purchasing Statutory Limit Insurance (SLI), which increases said minimum limits to US$ 1,000,000 per authorized driver of the rental vehicle. The SLI costs US$12 per night if pick-up occurs in Florida, US$ 13.50 per night if pick-up occurs elsewhere. Naturally certain exclusions apply, which include but are not limited to several of those described on our El Monte RV "Insurance" page.

  • vehicle incident protection (VIP): Without this protection the client is responsible for the full cost of repairs made to the vehicle consequent of damages that occur to the vehicle during the rental, as well as the cost of El Monte RV's lost rental revenue while the vehicle is being repaired. In connection with standard rates the Vehicle Incident Protection (VIP) is not included but rather costs US$ 16 per night (or US$ 35 per night for the Luxury A-Class vehicles, e.g. the AD39, AP39, AV39, or AE40) and reduces said responsibility to US$ 1000 per incident (or to US$ 7500 for a Luxury A-Class vehicle, e.g. the AD39, AP39, AV39, or AE40); i.e. it effectively introduces a deductible (alias, an excess). The damages covered by this protection include overhead damage, undercarriage damage, tire damage, wheel damage, damage which occurs when the vehicle is being backed up, theft of the vehicle, damage due to vandalism, fire, break-in, and weather, as well as animal impact, accidental damage to windows, and towing and recovery costs, all regardless of whose fault an accident was. The protection also typically covers costs of transporting a damaged rental vehicle to an El Monte RV rental station. Certain exclusions do of course apply, which exclusions include but are not limited to those described on our El Monte RV "Insurance" page.

  • The standard rental rates include unlimited generator usage.

  • additional drivers: There is a US$ 25 charge for each additional driver (although if pick-up occurs in California or Nevada, this fee is not applied).
  • Regardless of whether the rates are flex rates or standard rates:

  • El Monte's portable navigation device: US$ 95 per rental; portable unit, fixes to windshield via suction cup mount; available only at Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, San Francisco and Seattle/Vancouver YVR; requires an additional US$ 200 refundable security deposit.

  • standard shuttle transfer: The shuttle service is available at Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, San Francisco and Seattle/Vancouver YVR only. This shuttle service costs US$ 15 per person per direction in connection with standard-rate rentals, but for flex-rate rentals it is free of charge. Note: At Seattle/Vancouver YVR depot the service is available in connection with Vancouver YVR airport area hotels only (not with the Seattle area and hence not with Seattle/Tacoma SEA airport), and there is a US$ 6 fee per person to be paid (in US$ cash to the US government) at the border. (Due to increased security and traffic, delays crossing into the USA are possible. El Monte RV is not responsible for refunds of any type as a result of border delays.) The client opting for this service must call tel. 800 367 6507 no later than 9:30 am the morning of motorhome pick-up, this to schedule transfer and the precise pick-up time. The shuttle arrives between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm (or at the Vancouver airport area about 12:00 noon) at designated hotels only. … Transfer from the rental depot following the return occasion occurs between 9:00 and 13:00 (9 am and 1 pm), although at the Seattle/Vancouver YVR depot the shuttle departs about 11:00 am; these return transfers typically stop at the airports as well as at the airport area hotels. … Delays may occur during peak season and certain holiday periods; no refunds are given for transfer delays. Transfers are provided as a courtesy and are not financially negotiable or refundable. Transfers to the rental depot may occasionally be subject to restrictions or limitations beyond El Monte RV’s control. In such circumstances, transfers may be the financial and logistical responsibility of the renter.

  • priority am departure (PAD): This option guarantees a departure-ready motorhome by 11:00 am, this for a one-time surcharge of US$ 65. However, the PAD surcharge does not include any applicable shuttle charge. PAD departure must be booked at least 7 days in advance and is available at Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando and San Francisco only. The PAD shuttle service is restricted to those hotels designated as PAD shuttle hotels by El Monte RV. Upon arriving at the hotel, clients should call tel. 800 337 2199 for recorded detailed instructions. To meet the shuttle, clients must be at the designated point mentioned. The PAD shuttle typically arrives between 7:15 am and 8:00 am, although it may need to arrive as early as 6:45 am. There are no refunds for PAD surcharge if El Monte RV does not receive PAD hotel information 7 days prior to pick up.

  • mexico auto liability insurance (MALI): The El Monte RV vehicles are allowed to travel into Mexico if such travel is confirmed in advance and the client purchases directly from an USA El Monte RV rental depot (typically upon the pick-up occasion) the vendor's Mexico Auto Liability Insurance (MALI) to cover the specific range of dates during which the vehicle might be in Mexico. The cost of this MALI coverage is US$ 22 per such calendar date. Relative to travel in Mexico, MALI provides coverage for physical damage to or total theft of the El Monte RV rental vehicle, as well as third-party liability and medical payments, and legal assistance (especially to aid in preventing the client or clients from being jailed in Mexico). El Monte RV's On the Road Support Helpline does not extend into Mexico; and any repair costs, lost use, towing or fines incurred in Mexico are the client's (i.e. customer's, traveler's, renter's) responsibility and are not reimbursed by El Monte RV. No special authorization is required from El Monte to travel into Canada, Yukon, the Northwest Territories or Alaska, but travel to the latter three regions is at the client's risk, as described elsewhere on our El Monte RV "Insurance" page.

  • HOWEVER: Canadian residents are not permitted by Canada to rent a motorhome in the USA to travel in Canada. A similar restriction applies to Mexican residents renting in the USA and wanting to travel in Mexico.

  • pet fee: If the client obtains permission from El Monte RV at least 7 days prior to the pick-up day, pets are allowed in the El Monte RV vehicles. However, a non-refundable fee of US$ 100 will be required upon pick-up. Moreover, the client is responsible for any damage caused by the pet, and a special cleaning fee might be charged upon the return occasion.

  • convenience kit: US$ 50 per person. • * Child safety and booster seats:

We can address these safety devices in terms of law or, more wisely, in terms of one or another more general and more conservative (i.e. child-conserving) consensus about child safety. Nevertheless please note that IdeaMerge is neither obligated nor qualified to present to clients nor to the general public the full set of relative laws nor the letter of those individual laws; the comments below, whether about law or consensus are merely intended to indicate the nature of the general issue of child motor vehicle safety. In many cases (such as Canada and the United States) the law applies based on the state, province or territory in which the vehicle is registered or in which a particular rental commences. In Canada such law is strictest in Quebec and in Ontario. Which is to say, these are the only provincial units in Canada that require booster seats. The general North American consensus considers booster seats necessary for children weighing 18–36 kg (40–80 lbs), forward-facing safety seats necessary for children weighing 9–18 kg (20–40 lbs), and rear-facing infant seats necessary for children weighing up to 9 kg (20 lbs). Age-wise these ranges correspond to 4.5 years through 7 years, 1 year up to 4.5 years, and 0 years up to 1 year. In Germany, however, the high-end figure is more conservative, in the sense noted above. German law puts this figure at up to 12 years or up to 1.5 m tall; French law puts it at up to 10 years. In Ontario a child need not use a safety seat if (a) his/her weight is over 36 kg (40 lbs) or (b) his/her age is over 8 years (i.e. he/she has turned 8 years old) or (c) his/her height is over 1.45 m (4 ft. 9 in.).… Generally a rear-facing safety seat should not be used in a seat equipped with a functional frontal airbag. Also generally speaking, children under 12 years old should sit in a rear seat.… In the context of the whole IdeaMerge Website it is appropriate to address a few more specific cases. The state of Washington in the USA is relatively strict: children up to 1 year old or less than 20 lbs must be seated in a rear-facing infant seat; children from 1 year old through 3 years old or 20–40 lbs must be seated in a forward-facing child seat; and children from 4 years old through 5 years old or 40–60 lbs must be seated in a booster seat (in the rear if the front passenger seat is equipped with an airbag). In the state of Oregon children from 0 through 3 years old or less than 40 lbs must be seated in a child seat, and children 4 years old through 5 years old or 40–60 lbs must be seated in a booster seat. In the state of California, children from 0 through 5 years old or less than 60 lbs must be seated in an appropriate child seat, perhaps a booster seat. In the state of Nevada children from 0 through 3 years old or weighing less than 40 lbs must be seated in a child seat. In the state of Colorado, children from 0 up to 1 year old or weighing less than 20 lbs must be seated in a rear-facing child seat; children from 1 year through 3 years old or 20–40 lbs must be seated in a front-facing child seat; and children from 4 through 5 years or less than 55 in. tall must be seated in a booster seat. In the state of New Jersey, a child 0 through 17 months old must be seated in a child seat; a child 18 months through 4 years old must be seated in a child seat if riding in front; and a child less than 8 years old or less than 80 lbs should sit in the rear, if rear seating is available.… In Australia a child from 0 up to 1 year old must be seated in a child seat, and this seat must be fitted with a top tether that is in turn attached to a suitable mounting point on the vehicle; other constraints apply per territory, but the general rules noted above should nevertheless be applied and are typically indicated by vehicle rental vendors. In New Zealand a child from 0 through 4 years old must be seated in an appropriate safety seat; a child from 5 through 7 years old must if seated in front be seated in a booster seat or, we are told, secured with an adult safety belt (although this latter option seems too lax); and again the general rules noted above should neverthless be applied and are typically indicated by vehicle rental vendors.
